• Did you know that you might need permission to build?
  Remodeling? Many avoid applying for a building permit before building a new addition to the home or adding a new deck or even a garage. The main reason is the fear of a property tax increase or possibly the thought of paying a fee to improve their property.

• Did you know that without a building permit you risk legal action, large fines and possibly having to tear the new improvement down? Of course there are the safety issues. You would want to meet all safety conditions to prevent liability and injury. Without a permit your insurance carrier may not cover damages on the non-compliant improvement. Fines can range from$75.00 to $700.00.

• Did you know that there is a disclosure issue too? By law you will need to disclose if you did not acquire a necessary permit,  to all potential purchasers. Your Real Estate agent will also need to disclose this information. Real Estate Law requires it!!! Disclosure gives everyone notice that you have met all building codes and are not in violation.

• Did you know that the local building codes are designed to ensure that homes are built or remodeled to meet all safety requirements? They are designed to protect you and your family.

      Constructing a garage
      Building a shed
      Building a porch, deck or patio
      Many other improvements also require a building permit. Check with your City Zoning Administrator before you start!

• Did you know that there is a new city ordinance that will cause an inside water meter to be moved to the outside of the home upon the transfer of ownership? Check with the city as to the potential cost of that move.
